Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 is on a monstrous roll. After becoming the highest opener of 2018 by minting Rs 73.5 crore at the box office on Thursday, the S Shankar-directed movie earned Rs 38.25 crore (Hindi version) on day 2. The total collection of 2.0 now stands at Rs 111.5 crore, excluding the day 2 earnings in Tamil and Telugu versions.
Tweeting the latest box office figures of 2.0, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted, “#2Point0 remained strong on Day 2… Although the film has declined on Day 2, the biz should gather momentum on Day 3 (Sat) and Day 4 (Sun) Thu 20.25 cr, Fri 18 cr. Total: Rs 38.25 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version.” (sic)

The film is also performing well overseas. On day 1, it made Rs 2.05 crore in the US, Rs 58.46 lakh in Australia and Rs 11.11 lakh in New Zealand.
The long-awaited sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Robot marks Akshay’s Tamil debut and sees him in the role of an antagonist, Dr Richard/Crowman, a cellphone-hating mutant scientist. While Rajini reprises his role as Dr Vaseegaran/Chitti from the original film.
Touted as the most expensive Indian project ever, 2.0 is reportedly made at a budget of Rs 543 crore and is apparently more expensive than several successful Hollywood VFX classics like Deadpool, X-Men and Batman.
CNN-News18 film critic Rajeev Masand rated the film 3/5. Praising the film’s visual effects, Masand wrote, “The VFX and the sheer spectacle on display allow me to forgive many of its faults. Shortcomings notwithstanding, it is the victory of vision. Shankar has shown us that slick special effects blockbusters are very much within our grasp.”
The film also features Adil Hussain, Sudhanshu Pandey and Amy Jackson in key roles. Music maestro AR Rahman has scored the film.
