Mumbai Police Take Action Following Social Media Alarm
Mumbai police have apprehended a 25-year-old engineer from Gujarat, Viral Ashra, for his social media post hinting at a “bomb” threat during the wedding of Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani. Ashra, employed in the aircraft parts sector, clarified to authorities that his post was not intended to cause panic but merely expressed thoughts about the high-profile event.
Incident Details
On the night of July 13, an anonymous user alerted Mumbai Police about a suspicious post from a handle @ffsfir, where Ashra allegedly wrote: “My mind is wondering shamelessly that half the world would go upside down tomorrow after a bomb went off at the Ambani wedding. trillions of dollars in one pin code ??”
Following standard operating procedures, Mumbai police swiftly informed senior officials and the control room about the perceived threat. Despite suspicions of it being a hoax, security around the wedding venue, Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra-Kurla Complex, was tightened due to the attendance of numerous global celebrities at the functions.
Police Response and Investigation
The Cyber Police Station (South) and Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) launched an investigation and registered an FIR regarding the threat message on Monday night. Tracing the IP address of the user, police located Ashra in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Conclusion
While Ashra did not immediately delete his account, he eventually removed it from the microblogging platform after news of his post circulated. The incident underscores the vigilance of Mumbai police in responding to potential threats, even those originating from social media platforms.
