Mumbai, July 16, 2025 – An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Goa made an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Wednesday night after a technical issue with one of its engines was detected mid-flight.

The Airbus A320neo, operating as Flight 6E 6271, was carrying 191 passengers and crew when pilots declared a “PAN PAN PAN” emergency call — an internationally recognized radio signal indicating an urgent but non-life-threatening situation — at approximately 9:32 PM.

Emergency Declared, Aircraft Safely Diverted to Mumbai

The aircraft, which had departed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, was flying approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar when the engine snag was detected. Following protocol, the pilots requested an immediate diversion to Mumbai.

In response, CSMIA authorities declared a full emergency at 9:35 PM, deploying firefighting units, ambulances, and ground crews in preparation for the landing. The aircraft safely touched down at 9:53 PM, and the emergency status was officially lifted at 9:57 PM, once the aircraft was safely parked and passengers disembarked without incident.

“All passengers and crew were safe. The aircraft was escorted by airport safety vehicles and parked at a designated bay,” said a CSMIA spokesperson. “There was no disruption to other airport operations.”

IndiGo Issues Official Statement on Technical Snag

IndiGo confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday morning:

“A technical snag was noticed on flight 6E 6271 operating from Delhi to Manohar International Airport, Goa, on 16 July 2025. Following standard operating procedures, the flight was diverted to Mumbai, where it landed safely. All passengers were safe, and alternate arrangements were made to help them reach Goa.”

The airline added that the aircraft would undergo thorough technical inspection before being cleared for further operations.

Airport Teams on High Alert

CSMIA terminal operations staff remained on standby throughout the incident, ensuring swift response and passenger assistance. Emergency teams, including firefighting personnel and medics, followed all standard aviation safety protocols.
