New Delhi, July 2025 – India has strongly welcomed the decision by the United States to designate The Resistance Front (TRF) as a global terrorist organization. The U.S. move, aimed at curbing transnational terrorism, is seen as a significant step toward bolstering international efforts against groups operating from Pakistan-backed networks. The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has been actively involved in orchestrating terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since its emergence in 2019. It has repeatedly targeted Indian security forces and civilians while using social media platforms to spread radical ideology and recruit operatives. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the U.S. designation reaffirms what India has been highlighting on global forums — that TRF is a proxy of LeT and operates with clear support from Pakistan-based entities. The move is expected to tighten financial sanctions on the group, disrupt its recruitment channels, and hinder its global fundraising activities. “This is a welcome development and aligns with India’s consistent position on the need for global cooperation to fight terrorism. The designation by the United States exposes the true face of groups masquerading as resistance movements,” a senior official from India’s security establishment said. The U.S. State Department’s designation under Executive Order 13224 includes the freezing of assets, travel bans, and prohibition of all transactions involving TRF with U.S. entities. It also serves as a signal to international partners to apply similar pressure on groups destabilizing regional peace and security. India has long accused Pakistan of providing safe haven and logistical support to terror groups operating in the Kashmir Valley. With this latest action by the U.S., India is expected to push for greater scrutiny of terror financing networks originating from across the border. Analysts believe that the U.S. move will help India’s case at multilateral platforms like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the United Nations Security Council, where it has repeatedly called for accountability against state sponsors of terrorism. As global attention sharpens on counter-terrorism cooperation, India continues to urge the international community to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. |
