The Supreme Court of India has cancelled the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. The apex court, invoking its extraordinary jurisdiction under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), stated that it found sufficient grounds to overturn the earlier bail decision.

During the hearing, the bench underscored the principle that “no man is above or below the law,” stressing the need for equal application of justice irrespective of an individual’s social or professional stature. The court noted that the gravity of the allegations and the potential influence on the investigation warranted Darshan’s return to custody.

The Renukaswamy murder case has drawn significant public and media attention, with law enforcement and judicial authorities under pressure to ensure a fair and impartial trial. The Supreme Court’s decision is being viewed as a strong message on the judiciary’s commitment to uphold justice without bias.
