Russia Defends India’s Crude Oil Imports, Calls US Pressure ‘Unjustified’

PM Narendra Modi - Vladimir Putin

Russia has strongly criticized the United States for exerting pressure on India over its continued import of Russian crude oil, calling the move “unjustified.”

Roman Babushkin, Russian Deputy Chief of Mission in India, assured that oil supplies to India will remain uninterrupted despite Western sanctions. “Mechanisms are in place to continue oil supplies to India,” he stated, adding that both nations are actively working to remove trade barriers and expand economic cooperation.

Russia emphasized that energy cooperation between New Delhi and Moscow is a long-standing pillar of their strategic partnership. “We are confident that India-Russia energy cooperation will continue notwithstanding the external pressure,” Babushkin asserted.

The remarks come at a time when Washington has been urging New Delhi to cut back on Russian energy imports. However, India has maintained that its energy decisions are guided by national interest and affordability for its citizens.

With India emerging as one of the largest buyers of discounted Russian crude, Moscow reiterated that their bilateral energy ties are resilient and will not be derailed by geopolitical interference.
