US President Donald Trump has nominated his close aide Sergio Gor as the next United States ambassador to India. Gor, 38, is currently serving as the director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office and will continue in that role until his Senate confirmation, according to a statement Trump shared on Truth Social.
The appointment comes seven months after Trump assumed office for his second term. Gor’s nomination is being closely watched as it arrives at a critical juncture in bilateral relations, with tensions escalating after the Trump administration imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods.
Sergio Gor, a long-time Republican strategist and trusted adviser to Trump, is expected to play a pivotal role in stabilizing ties between Washington and New Delhi. Analysts believe his close association with the President could help him navigate policy challenges and open direct communication channels between the two nations.
If confirmed, Gor will succeed in shaping US-India relations at a time when trade disputes and strategic partnerships in the Indo-Pacific remain at the forefront of diplomatic discussions.
