Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the ongoing shortage of rare earth materials affecting India’s automobile industry and announced plans to strengthen national capacity in critical minerals. Addressing the issue, PM Modi revealed that the government will launch exploration missions across more than 1,200 sites to secure vital resources.
“I’m aware of the rare earth materials shortage, and we are trying to address it with the critical minerals mission,” he said, emphasizing India’s proactive approach to mitigating supply risks amid global constraints, including Chinese curbs on essential minerals.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Maruti Suzuki’s recent milestone, green-flagging the company’s first battery electric vehicle, the e-Vitara. Made in Gujarat, the EV is set for export to over 100 countries, underlining India’s growing footprint in the electric vehicle market and its reliance on a secure supply of critical minerals for sustainable manufacturing.
