Rapper Snoop Dogg has shared his reaction to the Toy Story spinoff Lightyear, expressing concern about the film’s messaging and its inclusion of a same-sex couple. Speaking on the It’s Giving podcast, Snoop described feeling unprepared to explain certain scenes to his grandson.
The film, which centers around the iconic Buzz Lightyear character, included a storyline featuring Alisha Hawthorne and her wife, Kiko. Snoop recalled his surprise at the revelation, saying, “What you see is what you see, and they are putting it everywhere. They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How does she have a baby with a woman?’ I was like, ‘Oh s***, I didn’t come in for this. I just came to watch the movie.’”
Lightyear, despite the popularity of the Toy Story franchise, struggled at the box office and faced mixed reviews. Snoop’s comments highlight the debate over how children are introduced to topics like gender and sexuality in mainstream films, reflecting broader conversations around media, family, and storytelling.
