Tragedy Strikes Cricket Match in Mumbai as 52-Year-Old Dies After Head Injury

Mumbai, – In a somber turn of events, a 52-year-old businessman, Jayesh Chunnilal Savla, hailing from Bhayandar, met a tragic end during a cricket tournament at Matunga Gymkhana Dadkar ground on Monday. The unfortunate incident occurred when Savla was struck in the head by a cricket ball, leading to his untimely demise.

Organized by the Kutchi community, the tournament witnessed multiple matches concurrently, with Savla actively participating for his team. The fatal incident transpired around 5 pm, catching everyone off guard.

Senior police officials revealed that two matches were underway on the same ground simultaneously. While Savla was fielding for his team, a powerful hit from a batsman in another match resulted in the ball striking him directly on the head, rendering him unconscious.

According to authorities, Savla was swiftly rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead on arrival. The cause of death was attributed to a severe head injury sustained during the cricket match.

Senior Police Inspector Deepak Chavan of Matunga police station stated, “We have registered a case of accidental death report (ADR) and we are actively investigating the matter to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.”

Savla, a businessman by profession, leaves behind a grieving wife and a son. The community, shocked by the untimely demise, mourns the loss of a fellow participant in the spirit of the game. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the inherent risks associated with sports activities and the importance of safety measures during such events.
