Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, flagged off Maruti Suzuki’s first global electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, from Hansalpur, Gujarat. The Made-in-India car is set for export to over 100 countries, including Japan, marking a significant milestone for India’s automotive and EV sector.
During the event, PM Modi also inaugurated a state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility established by Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso. The facility is expected to boost the production of hybrid and electric vehicle batteries, supporting India’s transition toward sustainable mobility and cleaner transportation solutions.
The launch of e-Vitara reinforces India’s position in the global EV market while highlighting the country’s capabilities in electric vehicle production, export, and battery technology. Industry experts note that this development could accelerate India’s EV adoption and strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem.
