India will enter the upcoming World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo with a record representation in the men’s javelin throw. Leading the contingent is two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, who has transformed the event into one of India’s most celebrated disciplines on the global stage.
In a historic move, India will field four men’s javelin throwers, the highest number from any nation at the championships scheduled for September 13–21, 2025. Joining Chopra in the event are rising stars Sachin Yadav, Yashvir Singh, and Rohit Yadav, all of whom have shown consistent progress on the international circuit.
The Athletics Federation of India announced a 19-member squad, reflecting the country’s growing depth in track and field. The presence of four elite javelin athletes highlights the “Neeraj Chopra effect” that has inspired a new generation to take up the sport.
Chopra, who has already secured India’s first-ever Olympic gold in athletics and followed it with another podium finish, will be the biggest hope for a medal. The younger throwers, meanwhile, are expected to gain invaluable experience competing against the world’s best.
The World Championships in Tokyo will serve as a crucial test for India’s athletes ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and the large javelin contingent is a testament to the revolution in Indian athletics sparked by Chopra’s global achievements.
