The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday formally inducted Nitesh Rane, a former Congress MLA and son of former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane, into the party.
The Rane junior filed his nomination from the Kankavli seat on Friday while being flaked by his father and BJP’s master strategist Prasad Lad. The 37-year-old had contested from the Kankavli Assembly constituency in 2014 and won by a margin of over 25,000 votes. The legislator had arrived on the political scene as head of NGO Swabhiman Sanghatana, which had launched a drive against the Mumbai water mafia in 2011.
