THE MUMBAI police arrested a 26-year-old man early on Monday for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and mowing down a pedestrian and ramming a cab, injuring one person.

The incident took place on Bhulabhai Desai Road in Gamdevi area of South Mumbai. The accused was produced before a local court on Monday and remanded to police custody.

DCP (zone II) Mohit Garg said, “The incident took place around 1.30am when the car driven by the accused hit a person walking by the road and rammed a cab in which one person was sitting. While the pedestrian died, the one who was in the cab sustained injuries.”

An officer said that the accused, identified as Raunaq Ganatra (26), was at a Kala Ghoda-based resto bar and left in his four wheeler around 1am along with two of his friends. The officer said that Ganatra and two of his friends were headed to his Vile Parle residence. It was while passing by the Bhulabhai Desai Road that he lost control of the vehicle and hit a person walking by the road. The four-wheeler then rammed a cab parked nearby.
