PM Modi Returns to Delhi After Singapore and Brunei Visits

PM Modi arrives in Delhi after concluding visits to Singapore and Brunei, focusing on bilateral relations and technology.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived back in Delhi on Thursday, wrapping up a significant three-day visit to Singapore and Brunei. His trip was marked by substantial diplomatic engagements and a focus on enhancing bilateral relations.

During his visit to Singapore, PM Modi shared a video on X, expressing the success of his trip. He mentioned that his visit was highly productive and would invigorate the bilateral relationship between India and Singapore. He extended his gratitude to the Singaporean government and its people for their warm hospitality.

On the agenda in Singapore, PM Modi met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Parliament House. The two leaders, accompanied by their delegations, engaged in a bilateral meeting where they assessed the progress of India-Singapore relations.

The meeting led to the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as digital technology, semiconductors, skill development, and healthcare. PM Modi invited PM Wong to visit India, an invitation that was accepted.

Additionally, PM Modi toured the semiconductor facility of AEM Holdings Ltd, where he was accompanied by PM Wong. During his visit, he invited Singaporean semiconductor companies to participate in the SEMICON INDIA exhibition scheduled for September 11-13 in Greater Noida.

Reflecting on his visit, PM Modi expressed his pleasure in interacting with interns from Odisha’s World Skill Center and Singapore, who have participated in the CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme. He also highlighted the valuable cooperation with Indian engineers at AEM Holdings as a testament to talent and innovation.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi met with Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Their discussions covered crucial sectors including skill development, sustainability, technology, innovation, and connectivity. Both leaders reviewed and were satisfied with the progress in their bilateral ties.

India and Singapore will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year. In this context, both Prime Ministers agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” aiming to deepen and expand their cooperation.

Before his Singapore visit, PM Modi was in Brunei, where he had extensive talks with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, expanding trade, and enhancing commercial and people-to-people exchanges.

In Brunei, PM Modi also inaugurated the new Chancery of the High Commission of India in Bandar Seri Begawan. He expressed delight at the discussions with the Sultan, emphasizing the commitment to furthering bilateral relations between their nations.
