India is steering toward a maritime transformation with enhanced training standards, digital learning initiatives, and climate preparedness measures. The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, celebrated its 75th anniversary on Monday, August 25, 2025, by hosting a Knowledge Sharing Conference in Mumbai.
The event convened senior government officials, global maritime experts, policymakers, industry leaders, and academicians to discuss the future of India’s maritime sector under the theme “India Navigating Through T³: Training, Transition, Transformation.” DG Shipping unveiled key training and inspection reports and outlined a roadmap for reforms in seafarer certification, digital learning adoption, and sustainable shipping practices.
The initiative underscores India’s commitment to modernizing its maritime workforce, embracing technology-driven education, and fostering environmentally sustainable practices, positioning the country as a forward-looking leader in global shipping and maritime safety.
