Mumbai, February 9, 2026 – A tragic fire at a Vile Parle East high-rise apartment claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman and left a 34-year-old woman injured on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred on the 13th floor of Suvidha Pearl, located on Pheroze Shah Mehta Road, around 12:44 PM, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) disaster cell. Officials reported that the fire originated from an electrical wiring duct inside a room, which quickly spread to other areas of the apartment.
The deceased was identified as Bhavna Satra, while the injured woman was named Aneree. Both victims inhaled smoke, which led to severe breathing difficulties. They were immediately rushed to Nanavati Hospital, where Bhavna was declared dead, and Aneree continues to receive medical care.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) deployed five fire engines and two jumbo tankers to control the blaze, which was extinguished around 1:44 PM. An MFB official explained the difficulties faced during the rescue:
“The apartment was on the top floor, and the entire corridor and staircases were engulfed in smoke. Both victims inhaled the smoke and were unconscious by the time they were rescued.”
Fire officials will investigate the cause after the cooling operation. The incident highlights concerns over electrical wiring and evacuation safety in Mumbai high-rises.
