Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the Vice-Presidential election, formally filed his nomination papers on Wednesday. The event took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior leaders from the ruling alliance.
Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by Radhakrishnan, handed over four sets of nomination documents to Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody, who is serving as the returning officer for the election scheduled early next month.
With 423 MPs supporting the NDA across both Houses of Parliament, the alliance enjoys a comfortable majority over the required 392 votes in the electoral college, which comprises a total of 782 MPs. Sources present described the occasion as light-hearted, marked by friendly banter and camaraderie among leaders.
Radhakrishnan’s nomination signals the NDA’s firm position in the upcoming vice-presidential contest and underscores the alliance’s preparedness ahead of the voting process.
