The Congress party has suspended Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil from its primary membership following allegations of misconduct made by multiple women. The decision comes shortly after Mamkoottathil resigned as the Youth Congress state president in Kerala.
The controversy gained traction when actor Rini Ann George publicly accused a “young politician” of sending her obscene messages, which led to intense scrutiny within the party. In response, Mamkoottathil stepped down from his leadership position, but mounting pressure and further complaints prompted the party’s disciplinary action.
Despite the suspension from Congress, Mamkoottathil will continue as a legislator representing the Palakkad Assembly constituency. He was elected in November last year during a by-election, defeating his rivals with a strong mandate.
The party leadership has emphasized that it takes such allegations seriously and will maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, particularly in cases that affect public trust and party reputation. The suspension marks a significant setback for Mamkoottathil, who was considered a rising youth leader within the Congress ranks in Kerala.
