Anand Mahindra, chairman of the Mahindra Group, launched a coffee table book, May A Million Buds Bloom, on Monday in Mumbai, showcasing the transformative impact of Project Nanhi Kali on girl child education. The book was compiled by 18-year-old Nitya Manoj Kumar, a recent International Baccalaureate graduate from the International School of Hyderabad.
Project Nanhi Kali, initiated by Mahindra in 1996, aims to educate and empower girls while encouraging social contributions from the public. Reflecting on India’s challenges in the 1970s, Mahindra said, “The population was spiraling, female literacy levels were low, and the number of women in the workforce was alarming. I felt that education of the girl child was the only solution.”
The book provides an in-depth look at the qualitative outcomes of the initiative, illustrating how targeted educational programs can foster opportunities for girls and contribute to broader societal development. Mahindra’s work with Project Nanhi Kali continues to inspire efforts toward gender equality and female empowerment in India.
