Kerala Woman, Child Missing; Murder Mystery Unfolds in Karnataka

A shocking crime spanning two states has come to light after a young woman and her toddler went missing from their home in Kerala’s Kannur district, only to be discovered in tragic circumstances in Karnataka.

When K. C. Sumathi returned home on Friday, she found valuables missing — 30 sovereigns of gold and ₹5 lakh in cash — along with her 22-year-old daughter-in-law Darshitha and two-year-old granddaughter. Darshitha, originally from Hunsur in Karnataka, had reportedly told her in-laws that she planned to return to her parental home. However, when repeated phone calls went unanswered, Sumathi approached the police.

Days later, police in Karnataka uncovered the grim truth. Darshitha was found murdered at a lodge near Mysuru. Investigators allege she was killed with explosives by a man she knew, who has since been arrested. The shocking detail of the crime has deepened the mystery, with authorities probing motives ranging from financial disputes to personal relationships.

Darshitha’s husband, Subash, works as a driver in the Middle East and was not in India at the time of the incident. The child, meanwhile, has been safely recovered.

The cross-border investigation between Kerala and Karnataka police is now focusing on how the valuables, disappearance, and brutal killing are connected, with further details expected as interrogation of the accused continues.
